Vice President Brian Pearson with life partner, Faye Atkinson

Gold Coast Bridge Club is a legally registered company under the auspice of the Corporations Act and answerable to ASIC. All Directors must have their personal details registered with ICAC and be issued with a Director number. Such is the case with our new Vice President Brian, recently unanimously elected by our Board of Directors.

Although Brian is still a novice Bridge Player – seeking to improve, he is a very experienced and qualified manager, with skills of great value to our club. Brian spent his whole career in the chemical industry working for the same Yorkshire specialty chemical company for almost 30 years. During his career he was responsible for the company’s business in Southern England, France, Belgium, Holland and Morocco. Later in 1986 he moved to Hong Kong to open a new subsidiary to promote the company’s products in China, Japan, S. Korea. Taiwan, Hong Kong and later India. As the business grew, by the time he retired to Australia’s Gold Coast he employed 25 staff in Hong Kong and a further 14 in offices in Shanghai and Beijing. He was presented, by a British Government Organisation the award of “China Britain Trader of the Year 1997”.

Since his retirement Brian has played a major management role in several local Rotary Clubs. Having been President of Broadbeach Rotary club, he has also been District Secretary to the S.E. Queensland/N.E. NSW District Board, Finance Committee and District Management Team. He is very community-minded. In 2015, Brian founded a new registered charity, ”In 2 Bat, for those in need.”  Raising funds through sausage sizzles to help women made homeless by domestic violence, teaching school children about the dangers ICE and improving the conditions for 650 children in a Laos orphanage.

Whilst his election to the position of President of Gold Coast Bridge Club is subject to a positive vote by the Membership at next September’s AGM, he has expressed an interest in taking up this position. His goals are to promote unity and camaraderie within our club and to continue the work of increasing membership participation in this wonderful game, also to ensure the good Management of the club within our fiscal responsibilities.

We welcome Vice President Brian
